Hello, World: Or the Agonizing Ecstasy of a eufyMake E1 Pre-Order
There’s a special kind of madness reserved for those of us who pre-order highly anticipated technology. It’s a self-inflicted state of limbo, a purgatory paved with a terse order confirmation email and obsessively refreshed website checking for tracking pages that refuse to update. My current affliction? Waiting for a 44-pound box of pure potential, otherwise known as the eufyMake E1. My browser history is a testament to this condition: a sad loop of the eufyMake pre-order page, the Kickstarter updates, and many dozens of YouTube reviews from the lucky few who got early access.
This contraption is a UV printer. A flatbed full color photo realistic device that lets me stick things other than paper into it and print in full color and texture - 2.5d - like a shallow 3d printer. Everything I’ve printed for D&D suddenly looks so flat. The Flip tiles and game tokens and taped together maps are all just… lacking. I’ve already started looking at every flat surface in my house with a speculative, slightly unhinged glint in my eye. The cats are for the moment, safe, even though they are sprawled out in that sunny spot tantalizingly flat.
And that brings us here, to bagsoffolding.com. This is the start of a journey. My goal is to share the things that I am making for myself, my kids, the game tables I play at and maybe even attempt a ten-meter-long print just for the sheer, magnificent absurdity of it. I have the hope that maybe some of this stuff I make is of interest to others and I can sell bits and bobs to pay for my new obsession. This will be a log of discovery, a chronicle of folding this powerful new tool into a creative workflow, more immersive games, and, well just the things that I think are cool that I want to share.
So, this is a hello to the world, but it’s also a call-out to the 17,821 other backers and early adopters. As we all collectively stare at our mailboxes, what’s the first impossibly ambitious project you’re planning to throw at your E1? Let me know in the comments below. The waiting is the hardest part, but at least we’re all in it together.
